Police Veteran turned Lecturer receives Award from Greater Manchester PoliceÌý

Tim Woodward, Public Services Lecturer at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ, has been presented with an award for Outstanding Commitment in recognition of his voluntary service to Greater Manchester Police Cadets.Ìý
 Ìý
Tim, who acts as Team Leader for the GMP Cadets, has been involved in the scheme since its inception and was responsible for bringing it to ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ. As well as co-ordinating all communication between GMP and the College with regards to the Cadet programme, Tim works with other serving officers to deliver activities and provide instruction and guidance to the Cadets.Ìý

The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ lecturer, who achieved his PGDE teaching qualification last year, worked as a Constable and a Sergeant in the Police Service for 20 years before deciding to focus his career on education. He calls on this valuable working knowledge and experience when leading the Cadets and when teaching onÌýÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ’s Level 3ÌýandÌýHE Public Services Ìýcourses.Ìý

Tim, who has previously worked alongside the Metropolitan Police Service, said: “I was extremely proud to receive this award from Greater Manchester Police as it shows the commitment and hard work that has been provided by ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ and the Public Services Department. The team have all provided me with support to allow for the successful implementation of the Cadet Programme and I am delighted to receive this on behalf of everyone involved.â€Ìý

In contribution to the Cadet Scheme, which has been running for two years, Tim has delivered First Aid and Officer Safety courses, plus sessions on general policing subjects such as Stop and Search.Ìý

Neil Scott, Curriculum Leader for Sports,ÌýFitnessÌý& Public Services at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ, said: “Tim's commitment to our Public Services programme – in particular, the Policing aspect – has been outstanding.  He gives up a lot of his time around his normal teaching commitments to ensure that our learners are provided with the best possible opportunities to develop their skills and gain experience relevant to their desired career within the Public Services.â€Ìý

JackÌýRotheram, Bolton Police Cadets Program Lead, commented: “Tim has been our support from the College. His assistance has been greatly appreciated by all our volunteer GMP staffÌýwhoÌýrun the scheme in their own time.â€Ìý
